修法去執開胸懷,著相用功難透脫;

Practicing beyond Appearance Yutang Lin

Practicing Dharma to loose grasping and open mind,
Efforts bound by formality could hardly go through.
Not to judge right or deviated by tracks observed,
Once comprehended no more departure from the way.

Comment:

Rituals and rules are means to help cultivate activities and purify minds. They should not become formality and frameworks to decorate and confine. Once completely engaged in practicing the Dharma, at any time and place one's mind does not deviate from the Dharma and one's activities become a continuous practice. Do not become attached to formality and consider such activities as practicing; otherwise, that would enhance grasping. Do not judge others by actions observed; cold or warm only the one who drank experienced.
