      Enduring Solitude
      Yutang Lin

      To a Dharma practitioner
        Solitude is precious
      Staying away to live alone
Not to become dull and having nothing to do
But to barricade disturbance arising from worldly mingling
So that no more hindrance arises
from narrow and temporary worldly considerations
And to enable one's mind to remain in clarity, tranquility and purity
        To concentrate on observing
all kinds of suffering as endured by beings in transmigration
and rapidity of impermanence in evolution of all phenomena
Thus one naturally awakes to the weights on the universal scale
of Bodhi activities and worldly engagements
And turns to devoting oneself into Dharma practices and services
for the universal salvation of all beings to full enlightenment
Whenever a person intending to engage in Dharma activities
Not satisfied with current step-by-step progress
But eager to see results of Dharma practices or services
Or wishing to seek companions, fast track, or "advanced" teachings
Those who are thus blindly pushed forward by illusions and wishes
Are indeed creating opportunities for hindrance to awakening to arise
Dharma practitioners who has genuinely grasped the significance of Impermanence
And intends to continue with solid Dharma practices and deeds
Need to be able to endure solitude on the enlightenment path
Making progress step by step with the panoramic view of Dharmadhatu in Oneness
Eventually such a practitioner will attain the fruits of enlightenment
