Grasping to Waves

Yutang Lin

Waves move, one after another, over the ocean surface; after all, this is just a temporary state of the ocean. No one would think of grasping the waves because it is obvious that it would be futile.

What we incessantly experienced is the indivisible reality, just like an ocean without boundaries. While our current sensations are constantly evolving, just like waves moving on the ocean of experiences. Even though what we experienced could not be grasped, and yet people often follow their personal habitual tendencies and preferences to insist on this or that.

Perhaps, when we realized our own grasping, we could remind ourselves that we are, again, ″grasping to waves″, and thereby saving us from futile attempts. If one could wake up to the realization that all thoughts in mind are ″grasping to waves″, then maybe one could reach certain degree of ″instant awakening″.
