罣而不礙

一有成見、偏好,就難免失去客觀整體之方方面面的清明,因此,修行佛法,通常都說,要放下執著。⟨心經⟩裏說,菩薩「心無罣礙」,得無上正等正覺。好像是說,修行要達到一切都不執著,纔是菩薩境界。

但是,菩薩不捨衆生,生生世世都在設法引導衆生離苦得樂,達到究竟証覺,應該是深深地執著於菩提行願;爲什麽⟨心經⟩裏說,菩薩「心無罣礙」呢?因爲菩薩的執著不是偏於一隅的結果,而是圓滿了悟整體的因緣,從而發乎悲憫的無盡救渡。所以,雖然有罣念,卻不為此罣念所局限。換句話說,菩薩「心有罣念」——念念在衆生,而無罣礙。

我從來也沒想到上述的微妙分別,今天有幸領會,與大家分享!

Minding without Confinement

In the presence of preconceptions or preference, it is hardly avoidable to lose the clarity of mind to observe objectively all aspects of the whole situation. Therefore, in practicing Dharma, usually it is advised that all grasping should be let go. In the Heart Sutra, it says that a Bodhisattva′s ″mind has no hindrance born of attachment″ and thereby attains utmost right and full enlightenment. It seems to say that, only when one achieved, through Dharma practices, no grasping to everything, then could one attain the realm of Bodhisattvas.

However, a Bodhisattva never gave up on sentient beings, from life to life, always attempting to guide sentient beings to escape suffering and attain happiness, and eventually attain full enlightenment. As such, a Bodhisattva is indeed deeply attached to Bodhicitta and salvation activities; why in the Heart Sutra, it says that a Bodhisattva′s ″mind has no hindrance born of attachment″? This is because the attachment of a Bodhisattva is not the result of being partially confined but, after fully comprehended the causal conditions of the whole totality, an endless salvation born of compassionate mercy for all beings. Therefore, even though there is attachment—from thought to thought always on sentient beings, there is no confinement born of such attachment.

The above subtle discrimination has never occurred to me. Today it is fortunate that I have comprehended it, so I share it with all of you!
