At Ease in Solitude

Yutang Lin

Open minded without self-righteousness;
Sunny sky allows clouds to fly in all directions.
Yielding with patience to redeem past dues;
In solitude one gradually approaches purity.

Comment:

Views and paths are chosen individually. Even though abiding with principles and acting with good conscience, one does not hold one's choice as the only alternative. Thus one is free from criticism and evaluation, and allows all views and paths to be concurrent without creating hindrance to one's being at ease. Not falling into the delusion that one himself is blameless, and hence one yields with patience in all events in order to redeem past dues; consequently, one lives in humbleness and harmony. Not working on artificial schemes nor trying to please others but only to work along the right path with constancy and perseverance. In solitude one gradually approaches the reality which is free from concepts and beyond descriptions.
