Sending away Self and Others

Yutang Lin

Grasping to Self is not limited to just minding oneself,
Lingering thoughts on others and matters are self-done.
Practicing Non-self by refraining from self-absorptions.
Whatever comes need not become one's preoccupation.

Comment:

Grasping to Self does not lie only within the sphere of matters related to oneself; whatever remain at one's attention are all by one's own choosing. Therefore, to practice non-self and no grasping, one should not only refrain from self-absorption thoughts but also remain vigilant in the awareness that lingering thoughts on others or matters also belong to self-grasping, and hence discard them. Notions of Self and Others are all to be sent away, only then can mind resume clarity to realize the common sufferings of all beings and thereby bear the great compassion and great wisdom of Bodhi.
